    The Boston Bruins are on the brink of the NHL's Eastern Conference final, and they got there on the backs of their suddenly offensive defencemen and a potent fourth line of forwards. They have outclassed the New York Rangers all over the ice in surging to a 3-0 lead in a series that could be over Thursday. If the Bruins start firing on all cylinders, the Rangers will have little hope of even forcing a Game 5 let alone entertaining thoughts of matching the greatest comeback in sports.

    (UPI) -- Wilin Rosario's walk-off single in the 10th inning lifted the Colorado Rockies to a 5-4 win over the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks Tuesday. Rosario, who had two hits in the game, delivered the game-winner off Matt Reynolds (0-2) after Arizona gave up a one-out double to Carlos Gonzalez and then intentionally walked Troy Tulowitzki, who had smacked a solo home run earlier in the game.     (UPI) -- Mike Trout hit for the cycle and chalked up five RBI in the process in the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim's 12-0 rout of Seattle Tuesday. Trout completed the feat with a solo home run in the eighth inning that sealed the Angels' third consecutive win. Albert Pujols, Josh Hamilton and Howie Kendrick all had two RBI apiece, and Jerome Williams (3-1) scattered six hits over eight scoreless innings to notch the win.   • San Francisco win over Washington with a 8-0 victory in MLB

    (UPI) -- Brandon Belt went 4-for-4 with a solo homer and Ryan Vogelsong earned a win but was injured Monday in San Francisco's 8-0 rout of Washington. Belt scored four times and his blast in the fifth inning handed a 6-0 lead to San Francisco, which opened a homestand by snapping a three-game skid. Angel Pagan drove in three runs while Andres Torres went 3-for-5 with an RBI double en route to the victory. Vogelsong (2-4) allowed just three hits over five shutout innings, walking one  

  • Arizona achieve a 5-1 victory over Colorado in MLB

    (UPI) -- Patrick Corbin fired a complete-game three-hitter Monday and the first-place Arizona Diamondbacks cruised to a 5-1 victory over Colorado. Corbin (7-0) turned in his ninth straight start of allowing two or fewer earned runs with the dominating performance while lowering his ERA to 1.44.   • Texas defeat Detroit 11-8 at MLB

    (UPI) -- David Murphy launched a go-ahead, three-run shot in the sixth inning Sunday and Texas overcame three Miguel Cabrera homers to outlast Detroit 11-8. Murphy's blast off Jose Ortega (0-1) erased a 7-5 deficit for the Rangers, who banged out 18 hits in the victory, their third in a four-game series with the Tigers.   • Ottawa defeat Pittsburgh 2-1 (2OT) at NHL

    (UPI) -- Colin Greening scored 7:39 into the second overtime Sunday and Ottawa bounced back in its second-round playoff series with a 2-1 win over Pittsburgh. The Senators, trailing 2-0 in the Western Conference semifinal series, seemed destined to fall again, trailing 1-0 with less than a minute remaining in regulation and Pittsburgh on a power play.   • Colorado and San Jose secure a draw 1-1 in MLS

    (UPI) -- Marvin Chavez popped in a goal in the 78th minute Saturday, drawing the San Jose Earthquake into a 1-1 draw with Colorado. Chavez, who was playing after the MLS upheld his appeal of a two-game suspension, scored the equalizer on a free kick that cleanly beat Colorado goalkeeper Clint Irwin. San Jose (3-4-6) extended its home unbeaten streak to seven games with the result. Nathan Sturgis tallied in the 26th minute for the Rapids (4-4-4).  

  • San Jose achieve a 2-1 win over Los Angeles in NHL

    (UPI) -- Logan Couture scored 1:29 into overtime Saturday and San Jose pulled out a 2-1 win over Los Angeles, taking Game 3 of their Western Conference series. The Sharks started overtime with a 5-on-3 advantage thanks to penalties late in regulation handed out to Robin Regehr and Trevor Lewis. Regehr had just gotten back on the ice when Patrick Marleau corralled Joe Thornton's feed behind the net and sent a touch-pass to Couture in the slot, who put a shot over the left arm of Jonatha
